For Patients

We Accept Your Insurance

OriginalDx is an in-network medical practice. We accept most commercial insurance plans and Medicaid for both primary care visits and genetic testing.

We handle prior authorization for genetic tests. If your plan covers it, we make it happen. If there's a coverage question, we'll tell you before we order.

How It Works

Referral

You or your doctor refers you to OriginalDx. You can also contact us directly to ask whether we can help.

Medical Review

We review your medical history and determine if genetic testing is appropriate for your situation.

Testing

We select the right test, submit prior authorization to your insurance, and order through our partner laboratories.

Results

Results come back in 2–4 weeks (rapid: 3–7 days for critically ill patients). We never send results without a conversation.

Discussion

We meet to discuss your results — what they mean, what changes in your care, and what comes next.

Ongoing Care

If you have a genetic diagnosis, we become your primary care physician for that condition. One doctor who knows your genome and manages your health.

What to Expect at Your Visit

First Visit

A comprehensive review of your medical history, family history (we'll draw a family pedigree), a physical exam focused on your suspected condition, and a discussion about which genetic test is right for you.

Results Visit

We walk through your results in plain language — what was found (or not found), what it means for your health, and what the next steps are. No jargon. No confusion.

Ongoing Care

If you're diagnosed with a genetic condition, we provide regular visits focused on your condition — medications, monitoring, family planning, and coordination with your other doctors.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need a referral?
It depends on your insurance plan. Some plans require a referral from your primary care physician; others allow self-referral to specialists. We can help you check — just contact us.
How much does genetic testing cost with insurance?
Most commercial insurance plans and Medicaid cover exome and genome sequencing when medically indicated. We handle prior authorization. If there's any question about coverage, we'll discuss it with you before ordering.
What if my test doesn't find anything?
A negative result is still informative. We'll discuss what it means, whether further testing (like RNA sequencing or reanalysis) is warranted, and what other explanations to consider.
Do you see patients in person or virtually?
OriginalDx is a virtual-first practice based in Colorado. Most visits are conducted by video. In-person visits are available when clinically necessary.
Can you be my primary care doctor?
Yes. For patients with confirmed monogenic conditions, we provide longitudinal primary care — ongoing management of your genetic condition, medication oversight, surveillance, and specialist coordination.
